LA has become "the hottest destination" in America for international architects

Reebok blasted for releasing Alien Stomper trainers exclusively in male sizes

Reebok has been criticised for only releasing male sizes of the boot-like sneakers worn by actress Sigourney Weaver in 1986 sci-fi film Aliens, Despite being originally created for a female character, the trainers were only made available by the sportswear brand in men's US sizes eight through to 12 when they went on sale earlier this week, After the Alien Stompers sold out within an hour, fans took to Twitter and Instagram to express their frustration – calling the move " sloppy" and " shocking, Reebok responded by blaming a "mis-categorisation" on its website for the error. The brand told online publication Digiday that the shoes were produced "in a unisex style" in US sizes 3.5 to 12, which it described as "a typical size range for a unisex model.

Customers also complained of technical difficulties, with products being removed from their carts whilst they were in the process of purchasing them.
"Today I learned Reebok can, and will, remove a product from your cart as you're purchasing it," tweeted one user, "Why can't any company properly release a limited-edition product without screwing customers," said another .

Jean-Paul Viguier Designs a Mixed-Use Timber Frame Tower in Bordea

Jean-Paul Viguier et Associés , in partnership with Eiffage and Woodeum , have won the competition for a 57 meter timber tower in the Saint-Jean Belcier district of Bordeaux , France. A tower and two shorter buildings, the 17,000 square meter mixed-use project contains housing, offices, and retail space, and is part of a larger master plan intent on spurring development in the vicinity of the Bordeaux-Saint-Jean railway station. The project name “Hyperion” is a reference to the world’s tallest living tree (a Sequoia sempervirens in Northern California) and emphasizes the proposal’s vanguard use of timber materials.

Kengo Kuma unveils plans for curved apartment tower in Vancouver

Japanese architect Kengo Kuma has revealed plans for his first tall building in North America – a residential tower in Vancouver with a curved silhouette (+ slideshow).
Called Alberni by Kuma, the 43-storey apartment building will located in Vancouver's West End neighborhood. It will sit near the entrance to the 404-hectare Stanley Park, one of the largest city parks in the US and Canada.

"I have always wanted to have a project in Canada because of its closeness to nature," said Kuma, 61, who founded his eponymous Tokyo-based practice in 1990.
"Typologically, this is a large-scale project in North America, a dream for any foreign architect. We have done towers, but not to this scale and level of detail.

The distinctive tower features two concave sides, resulting in a curved form.
The design aims to convey a sense of connectivity and transparency through its materiality. The tower will be clad in anodised aluminium and glass, allowing it to reflect the sky and neighbouring buildings.
Renderings and models show a lattice-like wooden screen covering the concave portions of the tower.

Vincent van Duysen designs concrete LED lamp for Flos

Milan 2016: Belgian architect Vincent Van Duysen has created a cast-concrete lamp as part of a range of designs for Italian brand Flos.
Presented at this year's Milan design week, the concrete lamp features a rounded top, giving it a resemblance to a recently rereleased light by architect Le Corbusier.

The collection also includes tall and short versions of I-shaped and C-shaped pieces, which are available in a range of materials including oxidised bronze, concrete, cast iron and coated aluminium.

All the designs are intended for outdoor use, and include hidden LEDs covered by diffusing glass to allow for "optimal light distribution".

The structures of the I- and C-shaped lamps comprise a die-cast aluminium base, while the metal is extruded to form the heads.

"The aluminium alloy used for the die-casting has a low copper content to enhance resistance to corrosion," said
Flos .

Van Duysen – whose previous projects include Alexander Wang's first European flagship store in London , and an Aesop store in Hamburg – was recently appointed the role of creative director at furniture brand Molteni&C Dada.

Van Duysen is Molteni's first creative director since the 1990s, when Italian designer Luca Meda held the role. Since then Carlo Molteni, the brand's president, has provided creative direction.
Flos' 2016 collection was presented at a space on Corso Monforte during this year's Milan design week, which took place from 12 to 17 April 2016.
Other lamps launched during Milan design week include a cordless light that generates its own electricity to additionally charge a smartphone , and a range of material-focussed pendants by British designer Tom Dixon .
